A SELECTION OF 4 PHOTOBOOKS PUBLISHED BY
FOUR EYES EDITIONS
A Paris-based publishing house specializing in art books and unique editions.
Impressionism, by Jonathan Bertin
To mark the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, photographer Jonathan Bertin pays tribute to this artistic movement with a two-year project spanning Paris and his native Normandy.
IMPRESSIONISM
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Impressionist movement, Jonathan Bertin spent two years photographing scenes from his daily life between Paris and Normandy—his birthplace and the cradle of the movement. From mundane moments to social gatherings, from chalk cliffs to the churning sea of the Alabaster Coast, he captured a collection of delicate images. A beautifully crafted book, and above all, a heartfelt tribute.
JONATHAN BERTIN
Jonathan is a Normandy native now based in Paris. After a first book ("New York — Quest"), he presents this new work as part of a nationwide tour across 12 French cities, followed by major exhibitions in Normandy (at the Abbatiale of Rouen), and in Amsterdam with Homecoming Gallery.
Editor’s note: The cover is especially delicate, made of velvet. The book is read vertically like a sketchbook and features exceptional print quality. Several special editions were created, including a scented collector’s edition, “Jardin en bord de mer,” in collaboration with FLAIR Paris.
≪ Jusqu'ici rien n'a changé ≫
The official book of the musical ≪ La Haine — Jusqu'ici rien n'a changé ≫
YAMAN YAMSONITE OKUR
Yaman is a French dancer, choreographer, and photographer of Turkish descent. A breakdance specialist, he became world champion in 2001 with the group Wanted Posse. Throughout his career, he has worked with numerous international artists. He is also the choreographer of the show "La Haine — Jusqu'ici rien n'a changé".
WILLIAM KEO
William is a photographer, creative director, and co-founder of Four Eyes Editions. A former photojournalist with Magnum Photos, he specializes in conflict photography, particularly in the Middle East (Kurdistan). He is also a suburb-specialist and is developing a long-term project supported by CNAP and the BnF: EXTRAMUROS, based in the Seine-Saint-Denis department (93), where he was born.
Editor’s note: We are honored to take part in the creation of this book. Our goal was to pay tribute to this monument of modern French culture, but also to use this art book as an opportunity to reflect on how life in the French suburbs has evolved between 1995 (when the film La Haine was shot) and today. For the collector's edition, we went a step further and designed concrete bookends inspired by the tower blocks in the Muguets housing project where the film is set.
≪ Alfred's Journey ≫
A testimony of half a century of photography capturing the world’s turmoil and joy, by Alfred Yaghobzadeh — 2023 winner of the VISA pour l'Image award / Benoît Schaeffer.
ALFRED'S JOURNEY
This book traces the photographer’s journey, from his very first image in 1978 in Tehran to 2023 and the war in Ukraine. In between: the thrilling life of a photographer crisscrossing the globe through its upheavals—from brutal warzones to joyous uprisings. The book includes 276 images, 8 exclusive essays (in English and French) by Alfred, and a 30-page captions booklet printed on ultra-light 45g Bible paper.
ALFRED YAGHOBZADEH
A member of the Gamma, Sygma, Sipa and Associated Press agencies, his work has been published in Time, Figaro Magazine, Newsweek, Stern, Paris Match, El Pais, and Geo throughout his career. In 1986, he won a World Press Photo award for his reporting on the Lebanon war. This book was supported by the SAIF / Benoît Schaeffer grant for photographic publishing, which encourages the creation of monographs by professional photographers.
Cosmopolite, by Fabien Ecochard
A tribute to a vibrant, colorful, and modern Paris through the eyes of Parisian photographer Fabien Ecochard.
COSMOPOLITE
This book presents fragments of Paris—not the postcard version, but the Paris of real Parisians. A result of seven years of work in the capital, it revives the grand tradition of color street photography to tell the story of a human, ever-changing, cosmopolitan city.
FABIEN ECOCHARD
≪ The Paris I experience is vibrant, cosmopolitan, sometimes chaotic. I try to go against the clichés and overly nostalgic visions of the city to capture its energy and complexity, as a global city in constant motion... ≫
Forewords by Jean-Christophe Béchet (photographer) and Melody Gygax (curator at Magnum Photos, collaborator of Alex Webb among others).
