A LOOK BACK AT THE 16TH EDITION OF OUR ANNUAL FILM PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

On Sunday, June 14, Point Éphémère hosted a new edition of Film Photography Day, an event dedicated to photography, meaningful encounters, and a shared passion for analog photography.

Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to discover the exhibited images, exchange ideas and experiences around film photography, and attend one of the most anticipated moments of the event: the award ceremony for the 16th edition of our “To Excess” competition.

After four weeks of participation, nearly 500 photographers from Paris and Lyon captured 24 frames using a Kodak Snapic A1 loaded with Kodak Gold 200 film, offering a wide range of interpretations of the theme. From all the entries, the jury and the Nation Photo team selected nine special mentions, as well as the three winning photographs of this edition.

THE JURY'S DELIBERATION

On Friday, June 15, our jury - made up of Diane Moyssan, Tanguy Delavet, Matthieu Quatravaux, Léopold Fulconis, Thibaut Piel, Johanna Banaïnous, Thierry Maignan, and Oumaïma Belouali - gathered at Dock B for a day dedicated to reviewing the competition entries. Their mission: to select the jury’s favorites and determine the three overall winners.

Faced with thousands of photographs, discussions were lively and the decisions sometimes difficult. After careful deliberation, a number of images ultimately stood out as clear choices. Discover below the photographs that won the jury over unanimously.

"An indefatigable host, he truly comes alive after dark. At his place, smoke replaces perfume, gin and tonics are sacred, and his dive bar is a sanctuary. The officiant takes his place behind the polished altar, where glasses pile up like offerings. The faithful greet him with raised drinks. As bottles pass from hand to hand, Magnolias for Ever bursts from the weary speakers and, instantly, the choir rises. We don’t sing, we celebrate!

"This photograph features my friends (from top to bottom): Joseph, Juno, John, and Marti, in their tattoo studio in Montreuil. They are artists at heart and a major source of inspiration for me. I thank them deeply from the bottom of my heart.
This image comes from a longer series shot in one hour, with excess as its guiding principle. "Through this photograph, taken with my sister, I wanted to reflect on the overconsumption of food in today’s society, which pushes us to consume and buy more food than we actually need. These cracking plastic bags symbolize exhaustion, excess, and the absurdity of this mode of consumption."
